JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (3-12, 1-3 SAC) men's tennis team dropped a home match 5-4 to Catawba (8-10, 1-4 SAC) yesterday afternoon.
The team of Lee Presson (Crossville, Tenn.) and Jonathan Allen (Lenoir City, Tenn.) secured the Eagles' lone point in doubles play. The duo defeated Iago Montero Nunez and Aaron Vanhorenbeck 8-6 in the no. 3 spot.
Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) beat Nunez 6-0, 7-5 at no. 5 singles. Daniel Douglas (Knoxville, Tenn.) provided another point from no. 6 singles with a 7-5, 6-3 final over Vanhorenbeck.
Juan Perez (Ecuador) took Pierce Hoover through three sets and came out on top 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 at no. 1 singles. In the no. 2 spot, Stefano Daza (Venezuela) dropped a three-setter to Matthew Nicholson 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
The Eagles are currently playing Wingate at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex. The match began at noon.
