JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (3-10, 1-1 SAC) men's tennis team resumes conference play against Coker (2-6, 2-1 SAC) at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex Friday at 3 p.m.
"Coker," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said, "is a big conference match for us."
The Eagles suffered a 7-2 loss to Alabama-Huntsville last Tuesday. The team of Juan Perez (Ecuador) and Joao Pedro Oliveria (Brazil) won 8-3 at no. 2 doubles. Stefano Daza (Venezuela) picked up C-N's second point at no. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 decision.
Lee Presson (Crossville, Tenn.) retired in his second set at no. 5 singles.
C-N picked up its conference victory with a 5-4 final over Lenoir-Rhyne on March 7.
In February, the Cobras toppled both Anderson and Catawba with scores of 6-3 and 8-1 respectively.
Coker is coming off a 7-2 defeat at GRU Augusta on Tuesday. Andre Staab supplied a 7-6, 6-2 contest at no. 1 singles, and Tom Sizeland conquered his opponent 6-2, 6-2 at no. 2.
"We need to be ready," Coach Love said, "to play smart tennis, and we need to get out to a good start in the doubles."
The match kicks off at 3 p.m. this Friday.
