Eagles crumble under wrath of Royals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman (5-16, 3-7 SAC) men's tennis team lost 8-1 to Queens (8-4, 4-2 SAC) Sunday afternoon.

 

The Royals swept the Eagles in doubles play. Lee Presson (Crossville, Tenn.) and Jonathan Allen (Lenoir City, Tenn.) put up a good fight at no. 3 singles before dropping the match 8-3 to Ignacio Casali and Will Roberson.

 

Juan Perez (Ecuador) toppled Jules Athalis in three sets 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 at no. 2 singles for the Eagles' lone point of the match.

 

At no. 1 singles, Joao Pedro Oliveria (Brazil) and Per-Erik Soler battled to the end; Oliveria ultimately fell 7-5, 7-5. Stefano Daza (Venezuela) also worked hard, but was overpowered by Casali 6-2, 7-5 in the no. 3 spot.

 

The Eagles return home Wednesday to take on North Georgia. The match will begin at noon at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex.
