GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second straight year, Carson-Newman women's soccer placed six players on the 2023 Academic All-District teams, as announced by the College Sports Communicators earlier this afternoon.
Simon Duffy's team had Addie Henry (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Annika Fend (Herxheim, Germany), Savannah Fields (Johnson City, Tenn.), Felicia Frick (Eschen, Liechtenstein), Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) and Molly Zander (Baneberry, Tenn.) all honored as academic all-district selections.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Henry just finished her fifth and final season with C-N. The graduate student leaves with 74 career appearances and 67 starts. Over her five-year career, she managed to score ten goals and assist on 14 other goals. One of the top players in the program during her time, she earned All-SAC honors in all five of her playing seasons. This marks the second year in a row that Henry was named to the Academic All-District team.
Fend earns her first career honor. The honor comes after a solid first playing season with C-N making 18 starts in the 19 games played. She scored her first career goal in the 2-1 win at Newberry on Sept 30.
Like Henry, Fields is honored on the Academic All-District team for the second straight season. The senior midfielder was one of just four players to start every game this season. Since arriving at Carson-Newman during the 2020-21 season, Fields is yet to miss a game, playing in all 60 games. The Johnson City native has six goals and five assists in her career. Her one goal this season came in the NCAA opening round matchup against #1 Lenoir-Rhyne.
Felicia Frick burst onto the scene in her sophomore season, recording team-highs in both goals (4) and assists (6). Her 108th minute goal against Anderson helped C-N advance to the South Atlantic Conference semifinals. Frick is a 2-time All-SAC selection, earning a second team nod this season.
Jud tied Frick for a team-best four goals this season. Three of her goals were game winners to help defeat Coker, Lincoln Memorial and Tusculum this season. The midfielder was another Eagle to play and start in all 19 games in 2023. This academic honor is the first honor of her C-N career.
C-N's final academic district honor went to Molly Zander, her first career honor. The Baneberry native appeared in all 19 games and started the final 11 games of the year. She scored goals against Newberry and Tusculum, both of which helped her team win those matches.
The All-District award winners are recognized by CoSIDA as the nation's top student athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third team honorees will be announced in early December.
