JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The NCAA released their initial women's soccer region rankings earlier today, with Carson-Newman women's soccer being one of the ten teams under consideration in the Southeast region.

This initial release lists the top ten teams in alphabetical order. Starting next week, the region rankings will be ranked and are determined by several metrics. Strength of schedule, in-region record, in-region RPI, in-region strength of schedule, and performance indicator.

The Southeast Region is made up of teams from the South Atlantic Conference, the Peach Belt Conference, and the Conference Carolinas.

Four other South Atlantic Conference schools are in the top ten, Anderson, Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, and Wingate.

Carson-Newman is 6-6-2 and has a 5-5-2 record in the region. Despite having the worst record among region teams under consideration, the Eagles have the best strength of schedule rating in the region with a .602 rating. All five region losses are to regionally considered teams.

The Peach Belt has four teams teams considered in the initial rankings. Flager, who maintains a 10-1-3 record, Columbus State who is 9-3-1, North Georgia who is 11-2-2 and Lander who is 8-4-2 overall. The only Conference Carolinas team listed is UNC Pembroke who sits at 9-3-2.

Each Wednesday the NCAA will release regional rankings. Only eight teams from the Southeast region will make the NCAA tournament. Five at-large bids and the three tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas comprise the field.
