Perry announced as Missouri S&T’s new head coach

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's soccer assistant coach Matthew Perry has accepted the vacant women's soccer head coaching position at Missouri S&T, as announced by the school earlier today.

"Delighted for Matt as he starts his new journey as a head coach," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "He had a short stint here at Mossy Creek but there is no doubt he made an impact on the players. I wish him all the best in the future."

Perry will take over for Jane Grimley-Gunn who stepped down in late February after posting a 6-8-3 record.

In Perry's only season on Duffy's staff, C-N earned its 12th NCAA tournament appearance and the program's first since 2018. The Eagles finished the season 8-8-3 overall and went 5-4-2 in South Atlantic Conference play. Perry assisted Duffy to helping coach three All-SAC players, placing one player on each of the three all-conference teams.

Prior to coaching at Carson-Newman, Perry spent two seasons at Life University in Atlanta as a graduate assistant and served as the interim head coach during the 2021 season, where he helped that team from a two-win season to 11 victories and a berth in the Mid-South Conference Tournament. Perry was involved in all areas of the Running Eagles' program, including video sessions, budget planning, recruiting and travel arrangements.

A search has already begun for a new assistant coach.
