JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's soccer (5-5-2) aims to bounce back tomorrow evening when Bluefield State (4-8) comes to Mossy Creek for a non-conference match at McCown Field.
Tomorrow's match will serve as the C-N's Pink Out Game. C-N is 1-1-1 in non-conference matches this season and 1-1 when playing them at home. The Eagles have struggled at McCown Field this season, going 2-4, its most losses at home since it went 5-4 during the 2019 season. They had previously only lost three times in the last three years at home.
Carson-Newman is trying to get back on track after falling to #2 Catawba on Saturday and avoid a second two-game losing streak this season. Under Duffy, C-N has never had multiple two-game losing streaks in a single season. One must go back to the 2014 season to find multiple losing streaks for C-N.
Scoring back-to-back goals now for Carson-Newman, Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) became the first Eagle since Carina Wust in 2022 to record back-to-back goals for the Eagles. The sophomore midfielder now has six career goals, three of them this season.
The non-conference match will be the second time Carson-Newman and Bluefield State take the field together. The first all-time meeting came last season, a game in which the Eagles won handily 5-0 in West Virginia. Addie Henry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Jente Kuper each scored in the opening half to put the Eagles up at half. Abbie Zander (Baneberry, Tenn.), Sydnee Duncan and Carina Wust all scored in the first 15 minutes of the second half to lift C-N to the win. Zander assisted on three of C-N's five goals.
Bluefield State is one of three schools in DII soccer that is independent. Salem and Shaw are the other independent women's soccer schools. The Big Blue is 4-8 overall this season and is 1-3 when playing on the road. After winning two of its first three games, the Big Blue lost six games in a row with half of those coming to SAC schools. The losing streak ended with a 7-1 over Allen on Oct 8. The Big Blue does come off a 4-2 win over Virginia State on Sunday.
The Big Blue has produced a strong offensive output in 12 games this season, averaging just over two goals per game. Ava Jakich-Kunze is the top scorer with a team-high seven goals and three assists. She scored three times in the win over Virginia State on Sunday. Carmen Galante, Martina Cardemil and Birta Osk Sigurjonsdottir each have four goals scored as well.
