JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The NCAA has released its final set of women's soccer region rankings before the selection show on Nov 13. and Carson-Newman women's soccer is listed as number eight in the Southeast region.
The Eagles are the last team in the field if the season ended today. Carson-Newman moved up two spots in the rankings thanks to an overtime win versus Anderson on Saturday. The Eagles are now 8-6-3 and has a 7-6-3 record in the region. Despite having the most losses among regional teams ranked, the Eagles have one of the best strength of schedule ratings in the region with a .563 rating. All six region losses are to regionally ranked teams.
The other three South Atlantic Conference schools are in the top five. Lenoir-Rhyne takes the top spot after winning the SAC regular season title. The Bears are unbeaten this season at 14-0-3. Catawba earns the third spot after losing to LR at the end of the regular season. Wingate is the fifth seed in this ranking at 14-3-1 overall. The Bulldogs have won seven straight matches.
The Peach Belt has four teams regionally ranked. North Georgia is number 2 with a 13-2-2 record. Flagler is two spots behind them in the rankings at number four and is 10-3-3 overall this season. Columbus State holds the sixth spot, while Lander is the last team ranked at number ten. All four of these teams square off in the PBC semifinals on Friday.
Conference Carolinas placed two teams in the rankings with UNC Pembroke at number seven and Barton at number nine. Those two teams play in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Friday.
The region rankings are determined by strength of schedule, in-region record, in-region RPI, in-region strength of schedule, and performance indicator.
The DII Women's Soccer NCAA tournament field will be announced on Monday evening Nov. 13th at 6:30 p.m. on the NCAA's site.
Only eight teams from the Southeast region will make the NCAA tournament. Five at-large bids and the three tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas comprise the field.
