Corcoran Named SAC Freshman Swimmer of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Megan Corcoran of the Carson-Newman Women's Swimming team earned a postseason honor following the South Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships this past Saturday. Corcoran was awarded the South Atlantic Conference Female Freshman of the Year award for women's swimming. 

At the SAC Championships this past week, Corcoran collected her fair share of hardware across multiple events. Corcoran's most impressive swim came on the fourth day of the competition with her time of 1:59.33 in the 200-yard Butterfly. This swim set the new school record for the 200-yard Butterfly event, earning Corcoran a NCAA DII "B" cut time and making her third in the nation in that event. 

Throughout the other events, Corcoran won gold in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:24.05, an NCAA DII "B" cut time. She collected a silver medal in the 200-yard IM as well as a NCAA DII "B" cut time. Relays saw Corcoran win silver in the 400-yard Freestyle and third in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. 

Over the course of the 2024-25 season, Corcoran accumulated a total of ten gold medals, five silver medals and five bronze medals across multiple events. 

Fernando Dehautd from Wingate was selected as the Freshman of the Year for men's swimming.
