Carson-Newman earned an impressive doubles point against Division I opponents in SEMO led by first-year head coach Steve Brooks, an alumnus of Carson-Newman who is the winningest male in program history going undefeated in both singles and doubles play in his four years in Mossy Creek.
Brooks took down his former program in a competitive match for the Eagles' first match against a Division I foe in three seasons.
"This was one of the wildest matches I have been a part of," Gangelhoff said. "To say that I'm proud of our women's team is an understatement. We were in mid-season form when it came down to team unity and energy… I'm confident in the women's team to become better from this experience. I am beyond proud of our team's character and resilience."
In singles, while C-N failed to earn a point against the Redhawks, all four finished matches ended with set scores of four or higher for C-N, putting sweat on the brows of SEMO fans. Both Hot and Awad pushed their matches to tiebreakers, but fell, losing the points.
