JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (14-21, 10-11 South Atlantic Conference) heads to Newberry (23-17, 9-10 SAC) for a three-game series with the Wolves beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
Inclement weather is in the forecast, so check cneagles.com for schedule updates.
Newberry is coming off a wild 16-15 win over Benedict. C-N head man Tom Griffin believes Newberry coach Russell Triplett has the Wolves playing quality ball.
"Coach Triplett has them playing the type of baseball that I love." Griffin said. "They put pressure on the defense with hit and runs. They're stealing bases effectively and moving runners with bunts. But they have some guys in the middle of the lineup that add a ton of power."
The Wolves have won five of their last seven games and are led offensively by Albert Baur. His .380 batting average ranks second in the SAC. Baur as well as Ryan Cranmer form a potent one-two punch. The duo ranks second and third in the league in RBI with 42 and 43, respectively.
However, Griffin knows that C-N just needs to handle what it can.
"All we can do is take care of what we do and do it to the best of our ability," Griffin said. "We've got enough things going on with injuries that we have to take care of what we are able to."
