JEFFEERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman freshman running back Troy Dendy (Laurens, S.C.) has been named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday morning.

Dendy accounted for 149 yards on the ground on only seven carries in the Eagles' 69-18 rout of UNC Pembroke Saturday.  He found the end zone twice and averaged 21.3 yards per carry.

Dendy is Carson-Newman's first SAC Offensive Player of the Week since Oct. 22 last year when Antonio Wimbush (Kingsland, Ga.) was lauded following the Eagles' win over Virginia-Lynchburg.

"Last year I redshirted," Dendy said. "That taught me how to be more humble. I just have to give thanks to God.  Credit goes to the big boys up front. They gave me big holes to run through."

Dendy tallied three carries that were at least 20 yards long, and had a fourth that covered 12 yards.  His 21.3 yards per carry are the ninth most for a single game all-time among players with at least five carries.

The Laurens, S.C.-native rushed for the most yards of any individual in Carson-Newman's seven all-time meetings with UNC Pembroke, and his 149 yards rushing are the second most among freshman running backs in the last 15 years.

Only Tyron Douglas rushed for more yards in his freshman campaign in that span, going off for 183 against Newberry in 2010.

Dendy and the rest of the Eagles will be in action Saturday against Catawba. Kickoff against the Indians is set for 1 p.m. Coverage will be available on the Eagle Sports Network starting with the AEC Tailgate Show on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville), The Mountain 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
