JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman football made its entrance onto Burke-Tarr Stadium before Thursday's contest with West Florida led by senior tight end Trevor Makarov carrying a United States flag.

While that's not atypical among college football teams, the flags origin is.  This flag was presented to Carson-Newman Football by the United States Air Force and Major Duncan "Atlas" McPhee.  The flag was flown with Maj. McPhee in his F-16 Viper on a combat sortie over the skies of Afghanistan on July 26, 2019.

Carson-Newman will run out with that flag for every football game this season to honor Maj. McPhee and the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

"I've known Duncan since he graduated from the Air Force Academy," Carson-Newman head football coach Mike Turner said. "His father (a football coach in Denver that Turner has know for a minute) told me his last mission in Afghanistan, they called out his call letters, his name and then that the flight was dedicated to the Carson-Newman Eagles. We're very proud of that."
