JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Coming off the heels of a four-game road trip, the Carson-Newman men's soccer team (8-2-1) returns to McCown Field on Tuesday evening to face the 21st-ranked Young Harris Mountain Lions (9-1) for a 5 p.m. showdown of two of the top teams in the Southeast region.
Each team won their previous contest last Satudayas C-N scored four goals in the second half to knock off Catawba 4-3, while YHC beat Peach Belt Conference foe Francis Marion 4-2 when the Mountain Lions fell behind 2-0 rallying off four-consecutive goals for the victory.
The Eagles have already knocked off one-ranked opponent in 2015 as C-N opened the season with a 3-1 win over the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers.
Young Harris enters the contest on a six-game win streak and having conceded just two goals over the course of the last three contests. The Mountain Lions' lone loss of the season came to SAC opponent Mars Hill 1-0 in overtime.
Freshman Tom Joslin has made an immediate impact for Young Harris during his debut season. The Englishman leads the team with five goals and four assists and has tallied 14 shots on goal. Mikie Rowe and Jake Simpson has four goals each for YHC. Senior midfielder Lewis HIlton is leads the team with six assists. The Mountain Lions average 2.80 goals and over 16 shots per game.
The Mountain Lions concede less than a goal a game with a goals against average of 0.89 with a freshman, sophomore and senior making every start in the back. Senior Paco Craig, freshman Maculey King and sophomore Josh Poole are the three listed defenders that have started every game for YHC and has helped the team mightly in defense.
Jordan Bradshaw and Anton Viden have each started for Young Harris in goal. Bradshaw has made eight of the 10 starts for YHC and has conceded just eight goals in 726 minutes of action. He's corralled 26 saves and has recorded two clean sheets. Bradshaw has yet to loss a contest in 2015.
Carson-Newman has been led by senior Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) and reigning South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week Tom Read (London, England.) The duo have combined for six goals and four assists over the span of the last three games.
Young Harris has won all four of the previous contests between the two programs dating back to 2011. The only other meeting in Jefferson City occurred in 2012 where the Mountain Lions picked up a 3-2 results.
The Eagles and Mountain Lions kick off at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and the contest can be viewed on the Eagle Sports Network as Michael Wottreng and Matthew Osborne will have the call.
