INDIANAPOLIS – The Carson-Newman men's soccer team (13-2-1) remained in third in the latest edition of the NCAA Southeast region rankings that were released on Wednesday.
The top six teams make the NCAA Division II Playoffs from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas, although no team can clinch an automatic qualifying bid via a tournament championship.
The Eagles picked up two wins over Southeast region opponents over the last week with victories over King (Tenn.), 3-1, and 2-0 over Brevard.
Tuesday night's 2-1 win over instate rival Tusculum was not reflected on the region rankings.
Pfeiffer picked up two wins and moved into first-place in the region. The Lander Bearcats jumped two spots after picking up a win over the Young Harris Mountain Lions to slide into second.
Carson-Newman remained third with a 12-2-1 record; Young Harris fell from second to fourth after registering a 1-1 week. The next three spots remained unchanged as Wingate, Flagler and Lincoln Memorial all held true at fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
The Limestone Saints made their first appearance in the Southeast regional rankings as the Saints were ranked eighth with a record of 11-3.
Carson-Newman ends its regular season with a trip to Hartsville, S.C. to face the Coker Cobras on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
