Welo named first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District

Sindre Welo Interview

ORLANDO – Carson-Newman senior defender Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) was named first-team College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District for Division II's District 3 on Thursday.

Welo's award is the first such award for an Eagle in recent memory.

"It means a lot. I'm actually excited to be named All-District academically as well. It means I'm doing something right, on and off the pitch, and that should be a main goal for a college student," Welo said.

Welo will earn his Master's of Business Administration in December and currently owns a 3.57 GPA while pursuing his MBA. The Trondheim, Norway-native has already graduated from Carson-Newman with his Bachelor's in Business. This season, the defender has tallied seven goals, including the two goals against Catawba. Welo has scored 26 goals in his C-N career, which is sixth all-time in school history.

Welo is the lone Eagle on the first team and one of eight players representing the South Atlantic Conference. The SAC led the district with eight representatives, while Conference Carolinas had three players on the team and the Peach Belt was represented three times.

"It's been a great experience (at Carson-Newman); it's probably the best decision I've made in my life, coming over here and getting the chance to do my undergrad and then it was an easy choice when I got offered to do my MBA as well," Welo said.

The Academic All-DistrictTM teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team Academic All-DistrictTM honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Welo and the 21st-ranked Eagles conclude their regular season schedule with a trip to face the Coker Cobras at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
