Eagles fall to Nighthawks Saturday

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – "Boys got beaten by a much better team," head coach Jim Frederick said. Carson-Newman men's tennis (3-4, 2-0 SAC) could not overcome the competition provided by North Georgia (3-1, 0-0 PBC) as the Nighthawks swept the Eagles 7-0 at the UNG Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.

Grad student Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and sophomore Ids Waterbolk (Bennekom, Netherlands) held the closest result in doubles for C-N as they claimed a total of three games but fell 3-6 to their opponents. The other two doubles matches ended 6-0 and 6-0 in favor of North Georgia. The results have stayed the same for the pair as they match the overall team record and are now 3-4 on the season at number one singles.

Waterbolk also showed immense potential at number three singles as he fought his way in each set but fell 4-6, 4-6 to Ostap. He is now holds a combined .500 record (4-4) for singles in the short season, seeing action from both number three and number four so far.

Sophomore Marc Janse (Zeewolde, Netherlands) competed as the number two singles for the third straight match as he and Benoit of UNG gave each other a tough run for points. The end fell in favor of Benoit but Janse saw himself secure no less than three games per set as he fell 4-6, 3-6.

The other closest C-N match on Saturday came by virtue of grad student Julian Froehlich (Kobenz, Austria) who was playing at number four singles. Froehlich is now 3-3 in singles action as he fell 4-6, 4-6 to Waldow of UNG.

The Eagles will continue their road trip in the Peach State as they travel to Young Harris, Ga. The Eagles will matchup with the Young Harris Panthers as the match starts at 2:00 p.m. from the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
