Eagles head to Music City for exhibition with Bruins

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  Carson-Newman (4-5, 2-1 SAC) will see their second and final exhibition for the 2021 season as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to face the Belmont Bruins (4-1, 0-0 OVC). The Eagles and Bruins square off Saturday at 6 p.m. at Hadley Park.

Carson-Newman is currently 4-5 on the season, coming off a win against Young Harris on Sunday and a heartbreaking home-opening loss to Anderson (S.C.) by a 4-3 score on Tuesday.  Grad student Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and sophomore Marc Janse (Zeewolde, Netherlands) lead the way with five singles wins on the season. Dabdab and sophomore Ids Waterbolk (Bennekom, Netherlands) lead the doubles portion with four wins in 2021.

"Usually, we have five tournaments in the fall and then 20 dual matches for our spring portion," head coach Jim Frederick said. "However, for this year, we are cut down on the number of dual matches we can have so that is why we have had exhibitions against Austin Peay and now Belmont."

The Bruins are currently 4-1 on the year and are coming off back-to-back 7-0 sweeps over Alabama State and Alabama A&M, marking the first time in the last 10 seasons where the Bruins have collected back-to-back 7-0 sweeps. The Bruins have three players who hold four singles wins on the season, collecting an overall team record of 21-9 so far in 2021. The Bruins are led by Miyamoto, who holds a current 2021 record of 4-1.

Due to COVID-19, NO SPECTATORS are permitted at Hadley Park for Saturday's matches.
