Eagles ninth in latest NSCAA regional rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Carson-Newman women's soccer team (4-1, 2-0 SAC) is ranked ninth in the Southeast region, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's most recent regional rankings released Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles are making their first appearance in the poll since Sept. 6th, 2011 when the team was placed ninth to open the 2011 campaign.

Carson-Newman's ninth-place ranking is in thanks to the program's best start to open the year since 2009, which is the same year C-N started 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.

The Peach Belt Conference's North Georgia Nighthawks are the top team in the region, while fellow SAC competitor Wingate is second; both the Nighthawks and Bulldogs are 5-0 on the season. C-N hosts the Bulldogs on Oct. 17th for a homecoming match.

Columbus State is third in the region and the Lenior-Rhyne Bears are fourth. Carson-Newman knocked off the Bears 3-2 in double overtime last Wednesday.

Armstrong Atlantic State is fifth and Clayton State is sixth; the Pirates are 2-2-1 on the year and the Lakers 4-2. Conference Carolina's Belmont Abbey and Limestone are seventh and eighth, respectively. The Crusaders possess a 3-1-1 record and the Saints are undefeated at 6-0.

The Eagles are ninth and SAC foe Anderson (S.C.) rounds out the rankings in tenth at 4-1; C-N and the Trojans meet on Oct. 3rd in the Palmetto State.

Carson-Newman travels to Mars Hill for a Wednesday night contest at 5 p.m. in search of its third-straight win.
