No. 24 Eagles ranked second in the Southeast region

INDIANAPOLIS – Looking for its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009, the Carson-Newman women's soccer team (12-2) is second in the NCAA Southeast regional rankings that helps determine the field of 48 that will compete for the 2015 NCAA Championship.

The top six teams make the NCAA Division II Playoffs from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas with each conference champion clinching an automatic qualifying bid. The SAC leads the way with five teams represented in the top-10.

Carson-Newman has three wins over the top-10 teams in the region, including a 1-0 shutout Wingate; C-N has also handed defeats to Lenoir-Rhyne and Queens (N.C.).

Wingate and Carson-Newman take the top two spots in the region, while the first non-SAC team in the poll is Columbus State who is third with an 11-2-1 record. North Georgia is fourth at 10-1-1 and Armstrong State rounds out the top-five with a 7-3-2 record.

Anderson (S.C.) is sixth at 12-2; the Trojans are one of Carson-Newman's two losses on the season. Conference Carolinas's Belmont Abbey and Limestone are seventh and eighth, respectively. Lenoir-Rhyne and Queens round out the top-10. The Bears are 10-4 in 2015, while the Royals own a 7-5-2 record.

The Eagles return to Jefferson City for their final home contest of the season as they host the Brevard Tornados on Saturaday evening at 5 p.m. on Senior Day as Carson-Newman honors its three seniors.
