Today concludes our release of the nominees for the Fall Frosty Awards. Our nominees for female athlete of the year are the last to be named. For  all the nominees thus far, click through the categories below.

The third annual Frosty Awards will take place in April and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department. 

 

Female Athlete

Julianne Herrity: Junior Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) became the Eagles' first All-American in five years after being named a third-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in early December. She was also a two-time All-Southeast Region selection, the South Atlantic Conference's Player of the Year and a member of the SAC's first team. The junior's first season at Mossy Creek included 16 goals and four assists in 19 starts She led the team in goals scored, tied for second in the league with her 16 scores and tied for 10th with four assists; her 16 goals tied for the 17th in the nation. She registered 93 shots, which was the most in the SAC. Herrity recorded four multi-goal performances, which three happened against SAC opponents. She ranked seventh in the nation with seven game-winning goals, including scores against Lenoir-Rhyne and Young Harris in double-overtime. Herrity scored multi-goal games against Newberry, Catawba, Young Harris and Coker.

Molly Locke: Senior Molly Locke (College Grove, Tenn.) had 448 kills and 454 digs to become the first player since Jenna Rust in 2003 to have at least 400 kills and 400 digs in the same season. The lone three-time SAC Player of the Week was a second-team All-Southeast Region pick, a first-team All-SAC honoree and a Southeast Region All-Tournament Team selection. She led the team with 18 double-doubles on the year while ranking in the top-five in the conference in total points, points per set, total kills, kills per set and total digs. On three occasions this season Molly Locke has notched at least 20 kills and 20 digs (9/4 v. Quincy, 11/20 v. Anderson and 12/6 v. Lenoir-Rhyne) becoming the first player in program history to accomplish that feat at least twice in the same season and fourth player ever to do so.

Varin Ness: Freshman midfielder Varin Ness (Sogndal, Norway) finished her first campaign in the Orange and Blue as a consensus All-Southeast Region selection, the South Atlantic Conference's Freshman of the Year and a member of the SAC's first team All-Conference. Ness scored 12 goals and five assists 19 appearances. She registered at least one point in her first four matches in her career and scored in her first appearance in the Orange and Blue against Ohio Dominican. She set the school record for goals by a freshman in the season. Ness scored the game-winning goal against Lincoln Memorial in the SAC Tournament quarterfinals in the 59th-minute off a free kick when the Eagles were playing a player down. The Norwegian registered multi-goal games against Mars Hill and Lees-McRae.

Priscah Jemeli (Eldorett, Kenya) concluded her first season toting the orange and blue in impressive fashion. The freshman finished the season with three top-10 runs, including a first-place showing at the Maryville Dual Meet. The Kenya native recorded a season-best 19:14.3 time in the five-kilometer sectional run at the South Atlantic Conference Meet in late October. Jemeli became the first Carson-Newman women's runner to be named to the All-SAC team since Hannah Reese in 2011, and was the first Eagle to be place on the conference's All-Freshman team since Meredith Nix and Brooke Earhart in 2009.  

Maddie Borch: Junior middle blocker Maddie Borch (Walnut Creek, Calif.) was the leader in the SAC in attack percentage this season with a .339 percentage on the year which is second-highest by a C-N player in a single season and ranked 46th nationally in that category. Dating back to 1990 a Carson-Newman player had never led the league in attack percentage over the course of a season. A SAC Player of the Week was an All-SAC Tournament pick, a Southeast Region All-Tournament team pick, a first-team All-SAC selection and a second-team All-Southeast Region honoree. Borch led the team in blocks 17 times and in kill 10 times. She picked up her first-career double-double in the Southeast Region Championship match with 14 kills and 14 digs against Lenoir-Rhyne.
