JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (5-5-3, 2-4-3 SAC) begins the final month of the regular season when it travels to take on Anderson (6-6-2, 3-5-1 SAC) Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
Carson-Newman's 2024 season has been a tale of two months. The Eagles went on a five-match unbeaten to end September and finished the month 4-1-1 overall, but has unable to sustain that success into September. C-N went 1-4-2 in October, with two of those losses coming by just one goal.
Sophomore defender Karli Pettitt leads Carson-Newman's offense with four goals this season. Anita Arnadottir, Selina Jud, Krista Nielsen, Savannah Fields and Felicia Frick are all multi-goal scorers with Pettitt this season, each having two. Eight different players have scored a goal this season. Four others, that have not scored a goal, have assisted on a goal. 12 different players that have recorded a point this season.
Making her sixth career penalty kick this past Saturday against Wingate, Felicia Frick became the program's all-time leader in career penalty kicks goals passing Lara Hallgrimsdottir who made five PK's from 2016-19. Frick is a perfect 6 for 6 in here C-N career.
Entering November, C-N sits one point outside of the top eight, trailing Anderson and Emory & Henry. With two regular season matches remaining, the Eagles can finish as high as fifth with six possible points left to get. Fifth place Coker has a four-point edge on C-N, while Limestone in sixth has just a two-point advantage.
C-N has the edge in the series ahead 14-8-1 all-time. The two squads met twice in 2023. Anderson won the regular season meeting in Jefferson City 1-0 on September 9th. They would meet again in the 4/5 matchup of the South Atlantic Conference tournament. After AU scored in the 33rd minute, Carson-Newman trailed at the break. The Eagles tied the game in the 58th minute on a Krista Nielsen goal. The game was tied after 90 minutes and again after the first overtime. It wasn't until a Felicia Frick goal in the 108th minute that helped C-N advance in the conference tournament.
Carson-Newman has won three of the last four meetings at Spero Financial Field and has shutouts in two of the three wins.
Anderson enters the final month of the season 6-6-2 overall and 3-5-1 in league play. The Trojans have ten points and are tied with Emory & Henry for seventh place.
The Trojans started the season well, winning three consecutive non-conference games, scoring multiple goals in all three wins. After the quality start, AU went on to lose four of its next five games, three of which came in conference games to Emory & Henry, Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba. Anderson's three wins in SAC play have come against Mars Hill, Tusculum and Limestone, two of which have been at home. One week ago, AU and Lincoln Memorial played to a scoreless tie. Both of AU's past two games have ended in scoreless ties.
Catherine Nardella's six goals lead AU and are seventh-most in the SAC. Ansley Douty is close behind Nardella with five goals. Four of her five goals came in consecutive fashion in conference play earlier this month. Six other players have scored at least one goal, for an offense that averages the seventh-most goals in the conference. Carly Keuffer has a team-best four assists, with four others contributing to the assist category multiple times this season.
Goalkeeper Macy McDufford has the third-most saves in the SAC with 54 in 12 appearances. has saved 78 percent of the shots that have come her way and has three shutouts this season.
