Quintet of Eagles named preseason All-SAC

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Five Carson-Newman women's soccer players were named to the preseason all-South Atlantic Conference teams, the league announced Tuesday morning.

Felicia Frick (Eschen, Liechtenstein) was C-N's lone selection on the second team. Representing the Eagles on the third team are forwards Anita Arnadottir (Alftanes, Iceland) and Krista Nielsen (Saudarkrokur, Iceland) and midfielders Alba Delgado (Oviedo, Spain) and Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland).

Frick took her game to another level during her sophomore season and was rewarded with All-SAC Third-Team honors for the second time in two seasons. After just one assist as a freshman, Frick had six in 2023, the sixth most in the SAC. She recorded two assists in a 4-1 win versus Emory & Henry on Sept 20. Frick's assist against Coker three days later helped the Eagles knock off the Cobras. The midfielder has been one of the more pristine penalty kick takers in program history. Three of her four goals this season have been from via the PK. Frick is a perfect 5-5 on penalty kicks, which is tied for the most penalty kicks made in program history. In the SAC quarterfinals on Saturday, Frick scored the go-ahead goal in the 108th minute to knock off the Trojans and advance Carson-Newman to the SAC semifinals. That goal was Frick's first non-penalty goal of her career.

Arnadottir recorded her first point with Carson-Newman which was an assist in a 5-3 season-opening win over North Greenville on Aug 31. The forward made 16 appearances and two starts. She took 12 shots, five of which found the target.

Delgado tied for the team lead with four goals scored and a total of nine points. Delgado started 11 games of the 14 games she appeared in. Scored her first goal in the season-opening win over North Greenville on Aug 31. The midfielder scored twice in a 4-1 victory over Emory & Henry, the second of which was the game-winner. Her final goal of the year came in a 2-2 tie with Limestone on Oct 28. The Oviedo, Spain native was extremely efficient, taking just 15 shots, 12 of which found the target.

Jud was one of four Eagles to start and play in all 19 games. She tied for the team lead with four goals scored, also had an assist to total nine points in her second year. The midfielder fired 29 shots, 11 of which were on goal. Her first goal propelled C-N past Coker 1-0 on Sept 23. She scored in back-to-back games against Lincoln Memorial and #2 Catawba on Oct 11 and 14. Scored the game-winner in a 3-2 comeback win over Tusculum in the regular season finale. Three of her four goals were game winners.

Starting eight of the final nine games of the season, Nielsen was an impactful freshman for Simon Duffy's NCAA tournament team. The forward scored three goals and added one assist. Her first collegiate goal came in her first collegiate game, a 5-3 rout of North Greenville on Aug 31. Nielsen's third and final goal of the year helped start a comeback against Anderson in the SAC Quarterfinals on Nov 4th. Half of her 30 shots were on target this season. Made appearances in 18 of the 19 games and had 11 total starts.

Carson-Newman begins its 2024 campaign on the road against Columbus State on September 5th. The match is set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
