JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (10-6, 6-4 SAC) finished off a three-match homestand on Tuesday against the UVA Wise Highland Cavaliers (2-12, 0-9 SAC). Senior Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) highlighted the day for C-N as she notched her 11th singles win of 2021 to set a new career high for single-season victories.
Price was playing in her normal number three singles spot as she easily swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to claim victory. Throughout the entirety of her match, Price only dropped six points to her opponent en route to the clean sweep.
"I was so happy to have this win on Senior Day," Price said. "It means a lot for me to do it with my family here and to only drop six points is something I strive to do each and every match."
Price started off her day with sophomore Natasha Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) in doubles action as the duo compiled their 14th win on the season which is tied for second-most in a single season for an Eagle pair. The duo is now tied with Brooke Sanderson and Jill Corsato's 2016 record of 14 wins as Sanderson/Corsato finished the year at 14-6.
Junior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) also notched her 12th singles victory on Tuesday as she won 6-3, 7-5 from her beloved number one singles. Resende now holds the second-most wins in her singles career as she went 13-4 in 2019. The Brazil native also sits with the fifth-most singles wins in her career as she is now 32-10 all-time. Finally, Resende holds the team lead with a singles record of 12-4 and 9-1 against SAC opponents.
Senior Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) saw action for the first time this season from the number four singles slot as part of C-N celebrating its trio of seniors. In her match, the Ukraine native played a "pro set" which means she only saw action in one round of singles. However, she was able to cap off a successful day with an 8-6 victory and moving herself to 31-31 all-time in singles.
Forrest was able to continue her success on the courts to match Price as the UK native swept her Cavs opponent 6-0, 6-0 in number five singles. Forrest is 9-6 in singles to go along with her 14-2 mark in doubles alongside Price.
The Eagles have seen consistency from the freshman on the team all season and Tuesday was just another notch on their Eagles career. Freshman Viola Khisamova (Yaroslavl, Russia) played a pro set as well and won 8-4. This moves the freshman to 7-8 in 2021 to begin her Eagles career. Fellow freshman Julia Speiser had an easy day on the courts as she was handed two wins via UVA Wise not suiting enough players. Therefore, she moves to 8-7 in singles and 10-5 in doubles.
As Tuesday belonged to C-N from the start, the Eagles automatically started up a match as number three doubles saw no opponents for the Eagles. Then. Price and Forrest clinched the doubles point with their 6-1 result before Resende and senior Abby Reis (Des Moines, IA) sadly fell 6-4 to start their days.
The Eagles will hope to return to action for another midweek contest, this time against the Tusculum Pioneers on Thursday from Greeneville. Be sure to keep up with all things Carson-Newman women's tennis at cneagles.com and via all social media accounts.
