Eagles hope to continue winning ways versus Austin Peay Saturday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's tennis hoping third time is the charm this Saturday as they return to Knoxville for another top-tier matchup. This time around, it will be the Eagles (2-1, 0-0 SAC) versus the Austin Peay Governors (1-0, 0-0 OVC) at 2 p.m. from the Knoxville Racquet Club.

"We played well last weekend against both Belmont Abbey and Tennessee Wesleyan," head coach Jim Frederick said. "The girls were in control throughout both matches and I'm happy to see where they are heading especially for this weekend."

Saturday's head-to-head will be the third time these two programs have seen each other, with Austin Peay holding a 2-0 series lead. The last time C-N saw action against the Governors, it was February 14, 2020. There was no love between the programs as AP secured the 6-1 team victory.

Last season, the Governors finished 9-3 (0-0 OVC) prior to the season ending. Austin Peay won six of their last eight matchups and were selected to finish as Ohio Valley Champions once again along with three players being selected preseason All-OVC.

In the newly opened season, the Eagles are 2-1 (0-0 SAC) and are coming off a weekend sweep of Belmont Abbey and Tennessee Wesleyan by scores of 7-0 and 5-2. The Eagles have seen success all around, but none more than senior Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) who is a combined 6-0 in all of her matches this season.

Jim Frederick knows the potential of this women's team and wants to see how they can hold up against a Division I-level opponent like Austin Peay. Frederick knows this team is capable of doing impressive measures and having matchups like they have experienced help them get ready to make a long run as long as the season lasts.

Opening serve from the Knoxville Racquet Club is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Governors.
