JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the first time in four matches, Carson-Newman women's tennis (7-5, 3-3 SAC) has seen a victory go their way against a South Atlantic Conference foe. Sunday saw the Eagles in a matinee against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears, with C-N leaving the courts as 5-2 team victors.

The Eagles came out swinging on Sunday as they gained the doubles point. Junior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and senior Abby Reis (Knoxville, Tenn.) saw another victory from no. 1 doubles. The pair is now 7-5 as a duo in the 2021 season, including being 4-2 in all SAC matches thus far.

The Eagles continued the winning ways with the duo of senior Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) and sophomore Natasha Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) winning at number two doubles by a final result of 6-0. The pair leads the team in overall victories as they are 10-2 this season and 5-1 in SAC play. The duo will be back in action Wednesday when the Mars Hill Lions come to town.

The freshman pair of Summer Reeves (Maidstone, Kent, England) and Julia Speiser fell to 7-4 on the year at number three doubles. The pair have shown great potential this early in their Eagles careers as they are 3-3 against SAC opponents and are easily able to put out a tough performance every match.

The singles action was almost all in favor of C-N as well in order for the Eagles to pull away. Price was on a hot streak as of late until she saw two straight SAC losses to LMU and Lenoir-Rhyne. However, the Knoxville native, responded nicely on Sunday as she moves into a tie for the team lead at 9-3 in singles on the year. Price left no doubt in her match as she came away with the 6-4, 6-3 result.

The other Eagle sitting at 9-3 in singles this year is Resende. She played in her normal number one position on Sunday, taking home a 6-2, 6-3 decision and moving herself to 29-9 all-time as an Eagle while playing singles.

Forrest, who is 6-5 in 2021, moved herself above .500 after claiming a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Newberry. The England native hopes to keep it rolling as C-N will be back at home on Wednesday.

Reeves was the final Eagle to claim victory and make the final decision of 5-2 official. She was in number five singles as she and her Wolves opponent went back-and-forth in a three-set thriller. Reeves lost the first set 6-2 before storming back and taking the next two sets by a 7-6, 6-2 result.

Carson-Newman wraps up a three-match homestay with the Mars Hill Lions paying the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex a visit on Wednesday. This will also be Senior Day for Price, Reis, and Alisa Liashova (Yaroslavl, Russia). First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. from Jefferson City.
