Eagles fall to Governors Saturday

Results

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Saturday was not Carson-Newman women's tennis' day. The Eagles (2-2, 0-0 SAC) were defeated by Austin Peay (2-0, 0-0 OVC) by a team score of 5-2. This is now the third straight loss for the Eagles at the hands of the Governors.

The day started off weary for the women as they not only lost the valuable doubles point, but could not muster enough strength to win a single match in the realm. The closest score came from junior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and senior Abby Reis (Des Moines, IA) who fell 7-5 in the no. 1 singles position.

However, Resende was able to storm back and keep her imposing record at no. 1 singles alive with a nice 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 three-set clincher as the Eagles started singles action. Freshman teammate Summer Reeves (Maidstone, Kent, England) was the only other Eagle to gain a singles victory with her 6-4, 6-1 triumph.

On the flip side of the net, senior Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) saw her perfect record on the season falter as she now sits at 6-2 on the year. She and sophomore Natasha Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) fell 6-1 in doubles before Price fell 6-2, 6-3 in singles for the first time in 2021.

The Eagles will be back in action next Wednesday, Feb. 24, as they make the travel to Cleveland, Tenn. And face the Lee Flames. First serve is set for 2:00 pm on Wednesday.
