Eagles continue SAC play with two matches in two days

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.  Carson-Newman (7-6, 3-4 SAC) will look to rebound as they have two matches in two days on the schedule for themselves. The Eagles will host the Mars Hill Lions (1-9, 0-8 SAC) on Tuesday before traveling to play the Tusculum Pioneers (8-4, 5-2 SAC) on Wednesday.

"We win as a team and lose as a team. We take everything and we try to grow from our losses and improve on our wins," senior Hannah Price said.

Last Saturday, the Eagles took to the courts against a top-15 team in the Wingate Bulldogs. Although C-N was able to muster up the points to gain the doubles point to start the day, Wingate took over in singles to claim the 6-1 victory and move to 10-1 on the year.

So far this season, Carson-Newman has been led by senior Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) and junior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) in singles action. Both are sitting at 9-4 overall in singles, but Resende has the edge in SAC play as she is holding a 6-1 record from the number one singles slot.

Price is one win away from tying her season record for wins (10) which she was able to collect during the 2018 season by going 10-6. Resende is only four away from tying her own season record for singles win (13) as she notched a 13-4 record in singles during the 2019 season. Both girls will be on the hunt to keep climbing the C-N leaderboard in hopes to bettering their own record and possibly securing a top-5 spot all-time.

Price and sophomore Natasha Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) are leading the Eagles with a 11-2 record as the number two doubles pairing. If they can continue their hot streak in SAC play, the pair is only four wins away from tying the program record for most doubles wins in a season (15) set by Patricia Guerreiro and Jennifer Ott back in 2015.

The pair currently sit with the second-best single season doubles winning percentage of 0.846.

Heading into Tuesday, C-N has won five straight over the Lions including a 7-0 sweep back in March of 2019 in Jefferson City. Overall, C-N has dominated home court advantage against the Lions recently as they are currently riding a two-match home winning streak.

On the other side of the net, Carson-Newman will be looking for their first win over the Tusculum Pioneers since 2009. The Pioneers are 12-1 all-time against the Eagles and are a perfect 7-0 from Greeneville since 2009, including the latest result of 6-1 in favor of Tusculum.

Both days will have first serve at 2:00 p.m. as the Eagles and Lions face off Tuesday and the Pioneers host C-N on Wednesday. Be sure to keep up with all things Carson-Newman women's tennis at cneagles.com and via all social media accounts.
