JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The accolades keep rolling in for Carson-Newman volleyball freshman Maddie Hurst, now named the AVCA's Southeast Freshman of the Year.
A few weeks after being named the South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year, Maddie Hurst (Blaine, Tenn.) has been named the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Southeast Regional Freshman of the Year.
Like the SAC's award, the AVCA awards the regional freshman of the year to the top freshmen from the SAC, Peach Belt Conference, and Conference Carolinas. Hurst beat out Peach Belt Co-Freshmen of the Year, Karson Browning from Lander and Tabor Scanlon of USC Aiken, Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year, and Olivia Melvin of Mount Olive.
The distinction automatically makes Hurst an All-American Freshman of the Year nominee from the AVCA.
Hurst collected 292 kills for 2.81 per set and 102 total blocks for 0.98 per set. After her stellar first season in Mossy Creek, Hurst was also named to the All-SAC First Team.
