Eagles trek to Tar Heel State for two SAC matches

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's tennis team (2-4, 1-2) will continue its road trek as they travel to the Tar Heel State for two South Atlantic Conference matches with the Catawba Indians Friday and Wingate on Saturday afternoon. 

The Eagles face Catawba at 1 p.m. and follow that with a 3 p.m. start time against the Bulldogs.

Catawba (11-5, 2-2) is currently riding a four-match win streak. The Indians were ninth in the preseason South Atlantic Conference poll is presently sitting at sixth in the standings. The last time the Eagles faced the Cherokees was in a March 21, 2014 matchup in Mossy Creek, where Carson-Newman found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-4 outcome. 

Wingate (7-3, 5-0) is currently siting number one in the SAC standings. The Bulldogs have a plethora of preseason all-conference selections, which include Filippo Pezzoli for singles, as well as Neal Towlson and Sebastian Hall for doubles. Wingate is also riding a five match-winning streak.

"The upcoming conference road trip to Catawba and Wingate is important," coach Love said. "It is important for us to continue to get more consistent at the process of competing in a pressure packed conference away match environment."
