Eagles set for weekends matches against Railsplitters and Bears

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman (3-10, 2-7 SAC) will again attempt to jump back into the win column this weekend as they face off against two South Atlantic Conference teams.

Lincoln Memorial (6-7, 5-5 SAC) will first come into Mossy Creek for Senior Day on Friday for a 1:30 p.m. matchup and then the Eagles will hit the road to face Lenior-Rhyne on Saturday at 2 p.m. Carson-Newman is looking to halt their current six match losing streak.

"It is a big weekend for us," coach Jean Love said looking ahead. "Last conference regular season matches and Senior Day with the LMU match."

LMU currently sits fifth in the SAC standings and is coming off a 5-4 loss to Newberry. Pepe Batalla and Joshua Peress lead the way for the Railsplitters as both own an 8-4 singles record. The duo also boasts a respectable 9-3 record in doubles. The Eagles fell to the Railsplitters last April 6-3.

Lenior-Rhyne is also coming off a loss, 5-4, against Anderson on Wednesday. The Bears are a slot ahead of Carson-Newman in the SAC standings at 10th.  Three Lenior-Rhyne singles players have at least 13 wins on the season and are led by Marvin Mueller at 14-4.  Robin Hochuertel and John Christian will also be on the radar for the Eagles, as the duo has a joined 13-4 record in doubles.

This weekend's matches will be the last SAC action Carson-Newman will see in regular season play, as the Eagles still eye the sixth and final spot for the conference tournament. Look for consistency at the top of coach Jean Love's lineup to give this team a chance to come away with two victories.

"We will give it our all to finish strong," said Love.
