Eagles set to cap season with trip to Tennessee Wesleyan

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's tennis team (4-11) will wrap up its 2015 season with a trip south to Athens, Tenn. to take on Tennessee Wesleyan (16-2) Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on March 26th, but was postponed due to thunderstorms.

Tennessee Wesleyan is currently riding a four-match win streak and sit atop the Appalachian Athletic Conference standings. They are presently ranked 21st in the NAIA polls.

The Bulldogs are led by senior Ezequiel Gils. Gils finished as a NAIA All-American for the 2014 season with a 17-1 singles record, as well as 14-4 in doubles. He has continued the winning trend this season as well.

Carson-Newman will do all they can to send off seniors Garret Durron (Woodstock, Ga.) and Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) with a win. The duo will be competing in their final collegiate match after devoting the past four seasons on Mossy Creek.

After an up and down season, the Eagles will be looking to finish strong by beating one of the top NAIA tennis programs in the nation. In doing so, they will once again need to get off to a good start in doubles and carry the good play into singles were the team has struggled at times this season.

A full recap for Carson-Newman's final match of the season against Tennessee Wesleyan will be available Tuesday afternoon on cneagles.com.
