Eagles prep for trip to Peach State for Eagle Watch Classic

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's tennis team (3-9) will attempt to break out of its longest losing streak of the year with a trip to Woodstock, Ga. to face the North Georgia Nighthawks (11-3) for the Eagle Watch Classic Wednesday afternoon with a start time slated for 12 p.m.

The Eagle Watch Classic is a good recruiting method Carson Newman coach Jean Love uses every year, as her current roster has three Eagles from the Woodstock area, including senior Garret Duron.

North Georgia, who competes in the Peach Belt Conference, is sitting fifth in the standings and is riding a current two match win streak. These wins have come in impressive fashion as they shut out Southern Wesleyan 9-0 back on April 1st and beat King University 8-1 on March 29th.

Alexander Reinaver and Julian Scholler highlight a talented bunch of singles players the Nighthawks have in their arsenal. Both players have records of 11-3 to go along with a 35-7 overall singles record for their club.

The Eagles will have to continue their good play in doubles as well, as the Nighthawks sport two talented parings. Mateus Camasmie and Matheus Guida are 11-2 on the year and teammates Phillip Mueller and Julian Schoeller are 12-1.

The only other South Atlantic Conference school North Georgia has squared off against this year came on a March 17th matchup against Lenior-Rhyne, where the Nighhawks took home a victory at 6-2.

Carson-Newman, who saw their a non-conference match against Reinhardt on Monday cancelled due to rain, will look to get an all important win heading into the last few weeks of the regular season. A win on Wednesday would be the first for the Eagles in nearly three weeks.
