Road tested Eagles travel to face Tennessee Wesleyan

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's tennis team (3-5) will try to continue its road success on the season as the Eagles travel to Tennessee Wesleyan College (7-1) for a non-conference quarrel Thursday at 2 p.m.

The Eagles have picked up every win so far this season away from Mossy Creek.

"We have been playing some good tennis lately," coach Jean Love says of her club. "We look forward to the challenge."

The same can be said for the Bulldogs as well. Tennessee Wesleyan is currently riding a five-match win streak and trail only Union College in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). They are presently only a few votes out of the top 25 in the NAIA polls.

Tennessee Wesleyan is led by senior Ezequiel Gils. Gils finished as a NAIA All-American for the 2014 season with a 17-1 singles record, as well as 14-4 in doubles. High hopes have been in store for this season as well.

Carson-Newman will need to get off to a quick start in order to be successful against this highly talented club. Love strongly believes that a good round in doubles can weigh heavy dividends on the overall match.

Look for the dynamic duo of Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn) and Joao Pedro Oliveira (Brazil), as well as Kevin Mendes (Woodstock, Ga) and Juan Perez (Ecuador) to get the wheels turning for the Eagles early, Both doubles teams have a combined record of 13-3 for the Eagles this season.

A full recap over the Carson-Newman and Tennessee Wesleyan match will be available Thursday afternoon on cneagles.com.
