Four Eagles Earn Preseason All-Conference Honors Ahead of the 2023 Spring Season

ROCK HILL, S.C. -Carson-Newman Men's tennis places four Eagles on the preseason All-South Atlantic Conference team, the league announces on Friday.

Junior Marc Janse (Zeewolde, Netherlands) is listed on the first All-SAC team for the second year in a row. On the first team, Janse is joined by sophomore Marnix Van Dalen (Netherlands).

Junior Lars Hordijk (Dordrecht, South Holland) and Gjorgji Jankulovski earned their first preseason honors when they were placed on the league's second team. Hordijk and Janse also reached doubles second-team honors.

Janse finished last season with a record of 22-10, primarily in the no. 2 spot, where he held a 17-4 record. He had a record of 10-2 in conference action. Janse's best fall season performance was at the Eagle Invitational, where he finished with a perfect record of 4-0, outscoring his opponents 46-11 in two days of action.

Van Dalen finished last season with a record of 20-12 in singles play, with 12 of those wins coming in at the no. one spot. Van Dalen was clutch in tournament play, finishing with a record of 8-2. Van Dalen held an 8-4 record against conference play. In his most recent action, Van Dalen won three out of four matches at the BAC invitational, primarily at the no. Two spot.

Hordijk finished last season with a record of team-best record of 24-8 in singles play. He picked up most of his wins at the no. 5 spot, where he held a 10-2 record. Hordijk finished with a record of 9-3 in conference play and 8-3 in tournament action. In his most recent effort, Hordijk went 3-0 at the Belmont-Abbey College Invitational.

Jankulovski finished last season with a record of 23-7 in singles play, primarily at the number five spot, where he accumulated a 16-5 record. Jankulovski excelled in SAC play, finishing with a record of 11-1 in the conference. Jankulovski finished with a perfect record at his most recent outing at the Eagle Invitational this past fall season.

Hordijk and Janse were named to the All-SAC second team after finishing with a 20-12 record last season. The pair won eight of their matches at the no. two spot and finished with an 8-4 record in league play.

The Eagles were tabbed fourth in the South Atlantic Conference preseason poll. Carson-Newman completed last year with a record of 14-8, marking their first winning season since the Eagles finished 9-8 in the 2009-10 season.

Carson-Newman's most notable win came on April 2nd when the eagles took down no. 38 Wingate 4-3. Janse, Jankulovski, Rintaro Oka, and Ids Waterbolk were the four that led the Eagles to victory against the interconference rival.
