No. 26 Men's Tennis Awaits Emory & Henry

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - No. 26 Carson-Newman men's tennis (7-6) will compete in a bout with Emory and Henry (4-10) on Wednesday, Mar. 29th. The Eagles Will then travel to take on no. 31 Wingate University (9-2) on Saturday, Apr. 1st.

The Eagles have won five out of their last six games since conference play began on Mar. 4th. Charry's squad started the month unranked, but a 6-1 victory over undefeated #17 Anderson vaulted Carson-Newman into the ITA's no. 26 spot.

The Eagles squad features the ITA's 73rd-ranked singles player, Marc Janse. Janse is currently riding a ten-game winning streak. The senior from Zeewolde, Netherlands, collected his 50th career singles victory after defeating Coker's Andy Huynh in sets of 6-2 and 6-3.

Gjorgji Jankulovski is tied with Janse for most singles victories this season with 11. Jankulovski has won seven straight matchups and is 9-1 in his last ten meetings. Marnix Van Dalen is third on the team with ten wins, including eight of his last ten matchups. Ids Waterbolk is on a six-game winning streak after starting the year 2-6.

Carson-Newman duos are 24-18 this season. Rintaro Oka and Marc Janse are 8-6 as a pair, including a 5-2 record in conference play. Lars Hordijk and Van Dalen are 8-0 as a pair this season. Jankulovski and Waterbolk won their first five matchups of the season but currently hold a 6-3 record.

The Eagles are currently fourth in the SAC with a record of 5-1 in conference play. Tusculum is the top team currently, with a 6-0 record in conference play and a 10-4 record overall. Wingate ranks second with a 5-0 record within the conference and a 9-2 record overall. Anderson sits at third with a 6-1 record within the conference and a 10-1 record on the year, with their lone loss coming against Carson-Newman on Mar. 18th.

Emory and Henry have struggled in conference play, accumulating seven straight losses in SAC competitions. They are 0-7 in conference play and hold a record of 4-10 overall. Coker is the only team with a worse overall record (3-9), and Mars Hills is tied with Emory and Henry with a 4-10 record. Nevertheless, Emory and Henry remain at the bottom of the conference by being one of two teams to remain winless in conference play. UVA-Wise is also winless in conference play but holds the tiebreaker over Emory and Henry due to UVA-Wise's 9-7 overall record.

Wingate is currently the ITA's no. 31 team after achieving a 9-2 record this season. The Bulldogs feature the ITA's no. 39 singles player in Florian Walcher and the no. 49 player in Gabriel Constantino. The Eagles won their first matchup in program history against Wingate last year on Apr. 2nd, but later fell to the Bulldogs on Apr. 22nd. Carson-Newman is 1-13 against Wingate all-time. 

Doubles action will begin at 3:00 P.M. against Emory and Henry at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex in Jefferson City, Tenn.
