No. 37 Eagles Drop Matchup with No.36 Bulldogs

WINGATE, N.C. - Carson-Newman men's tennis (8-7) drops matchup with the conference's top team. Wingate (12-2) won 6-1 to keep their perfect SAC record intact.

Doubles

Gjorgji Jankulovski and Ids Waterbolk won Carson-Newman's only doubles set of the day when they defeated Florian Walcher and Petar Basic Palkovic 6-2. The Eagles duo is 8-2 this season.

Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka paired up for the 15th time this season when they took on Edis Nokic and Gabriel Constantino. The Eagles lost 6-3.

Marnix Van Dalen and Lars Hordijk dropped their set to Hugo Nossler and Luka Brown 6-3. After winning two of the three doubles sets, the Bulldogs won the doubles point.

Singles

Jankulovski delivered Carson-Newman's only point of the day when he defeated Hugo Nossler in the three spot. Nossler captured the first set 6-1, but Jankulovski rallied in the second set to win 7-6. He escaped the third set with a 7-6 victory to mark his team-leading eighth consecutive win.

Janse saw his 10-game win streak snapped when he took on Gabriel Constantino. The Bulldog won 7-6, 6-3. Van Dalen won his first set 6-3 against Edis Nokic but dropped the following sets 6-4, 6-1.

Rintaro Oka lost to Luka Brown in sets of 7-6 and 6-0. Waterbolk lined up against Jonas Grasmueck to play a single set to 8. Grasmueck won 8-4. Hordijk lost to Federico Spinetta 8-3.

Carson-Newman's 6-1 marks the largest deficit the Eagles have faced since their 7-0 loss to Tennessee Wesleyan on Feb. 18th.

The Eagles fall to 6-2 in conference play. Wingate remains the conference's top team with a record of 7-0. Losses by Lincoln Memorial and Limestone allow Carson-Newman to remain fourth in the conference.

Carson-Newman has four regular season games left. The Eagles will take on Lincoln Memorial on Apr. 5th before traveling to take on Virginia-Wise on Apr. 7th. The Eagles will return to Mossy Creek to compete in their final home game against Mars Hill on Apr. 11th. The season finale will be played on Apr. 15th against Newberry.
