JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's tennis (4-5) will look to win their third straight conference matchup of the season in a meeting with Limestone University (4-2) on Saturday, Mar. 11th.
Carson-Newman was not placed within the ITA's top 50 despite winning two conference matchups in the past week, along with a victory over #25-ranked Belmont Abbey. Limestone remains unranked as a team, but Gerardo Diego was placed as the #63 singles player in the national rankings.
After the Eagles beat #25 Belmont Abbey, they went on a four-game losing streak, including losses to #11 North Georgia and #13 Lander. The Blue and Orange picked up their second win of the season in a matchup against Union (Ky.) on Feb. 21st. They lost 5-2 to Lee before dominating two straight conference matchups with a 6-1 win over Catawba and a 7-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne.
Marnix Van Dalen, Marc Janse, and Gjorgji Jankulovski lead the Eagles in wins with six. Janse has seen most of his work in the number one spot, with a record of 4-2. Van Dalen holds a 5-1 record in the two spot, and Jankulovski is 6-3 after splitting time between the three and the four.
Rintaro Oka and Janse lead the team in doubles wins with five as a pair. Ids Waterbolk and Jankulovski have won four straight to climb to a 4-0 record. Lars Hordijk and Van Dalen are 3-0 on the year.
Limestone began the year with a 4-3 loss to Emmanuel (Ga.). They went on to win against Converse before losing 7-0 to Gardner-Webb. They began conference play 2-0 with wins over Catawba and Newberry. They won their most recent action against Penn West Edinboro to advance to 4-2 on the year.
The Eagles won their matchup against the Saints last year on Mar. 5th. The Eagles swept the Saints 7-0 to even their record versus the Limestone at 2-2.
Carson-Newman will begin doubles action at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday.
