No. 48 Eagles Upset No. 17 Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. - Carson-Newman men's tennis (6-6) defeats #17 Anderson University (8-1) for the first time in program history with a 6-1 victory on Saturday, Mar. 18th.

The Eagles advance to 4-1 in conference play this season, tying Anderson for the most conference wins in the SAC. Carson-Newman's win marks the first over a top-20 ranked team in the last decade.

Doubles

Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka paired up for the 12th time this season to take on Philip Olsson and Julian Kenzlers. Carson-Newman's duo won 6-4 to mark their sixth win as a pair this season.

Lars Hordijk and Marnix Van Dalen maintained their perfect streak when they lined up against Juan Sengariz and Chambers Easterling. Hordijk and Van Dalen won 6-3.

Ids Waterbolk and Gjorgji Jankulovski lost to Aaron Cabo and Greyson Doscotch. The Trojans duo won 7-5.

Carson-Newman won two out of the three sets to clinch the doubles point. The Eagles have won the doubles point in six of the last seven matches despite starting the season 1-4 in doubles play.

Singles

Janse won his eighth straight singles point when he took on Sengariz in the one spot. Janse won the first set 6-4 but dropped the second 7-5. Janse bounced back in the tiebreaking set to win 6-2. The Eagles' senior is 9-3 this season, including a 6-2 record in the one spot.

Van Dalen defeated Doscotch in sets of 6-4 and 6-1. This season, Van Dalen is 6-1 when playing in the two spot.

Jankulovski lost his first set against Cabo 7-6. Jankulovski shut out Cabo in the second set 6-0. Jankulovski took the final set 7-5 to earn his ninth singles point of the season, tying Janse for the most on the team.

Waterbolk lined up in the five spot for the 11th time this season against Easterling. The Eagles' senior lost the first set 6-3 but responded in the second with a 6-3 victory. Waterbolk won the final set 10-5.

Hordijk lined up against Patrick Cronin in the six spot. Hordijk won the first set 6-2 but dropped the second set 6-4. Hordijk took the tiebreaking set 10-7 to advance to 27-9 during his career.

Oka faced Kenzler in the three spot. Oka dropped the first set 6-4 but responded with a 6-3 second-set victory. Kenzler bounced back in the third set 6-4 to earn Anderson's only point of the match.

Carson-Newman is 2-3 against ranked opponents so far this season. The Eagles will play their next ranked opponent on Apr. 1st when they take on #29 Wingate University.

The Eagles return to action on Mar. 25th to take on the Coker Cobras at 1:00 P.M. for Carson-Newman's third home match of the season.
