Eagles Head to Sumter for the SAC Quarterfinals

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -Carson-Newman men's tennis (12-7, 10-2 South Atlantic Conference) is set to compete as the third seed at the South Atlantic Conference tournament on Thursday. The Eagles have not been ranked within the top-3 since the 2006 season when the conference had just seven teams.

The Eagles will take on the sixth-seeded Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (14-9, 7-5 SAC). Charry's squad defeated Lincoln Memorial University 6-1 on Apr. 5th. The win was the first of Carson-Newman's four-game win streak to end the regular season.

Marc Janse, Marnix Van Dalen, Gjorgji Jankulovski, Ids Waterbolk, and Lars Hordijk each won their singles matches when they lined up against the Railsplitters earlier this season. Oka/Janse and Lars Hordijk collected wins in doubles action to give the Eagles the doubles point.

Carson-Newman's ten conference wins during the regular season marked the most in team history. Jankulovski was a significant contributing factor in conference play, winning all 12 of his interconference matchups. The Macedonia native led all Eagles with 16 singles victories.

Janse was Carson-Newman's one player for most of the regular season and is expected to remain in that role for their first postseason matchup. Janse finished the season with a record of 15-5, including nine wins as Carson-Newman's one.

Van Dalen's 12 singles victories were good enough for third-best on the team. He held a record of 9-3 as Carson-Newman's two-player. When paired up with Hordijk in doubles action, he held a record of 12-1, including a 10-1 record against conference opponents.

The Eagles are 3-13 all-time against the Railsplitters but have won two straight against the Harrogate residents. Before last season, Carson-Newman had not beaten the Railsplitters since their first matchup in 2009.

Doubles action will begin at 2:00 P.M. at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
