Eagles Rise in ITA Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. - Carson-Newman men's tennis (11-7, 9-2 South Atlantic conference) moves up to no. 41 on the ITA's National Division-II Rankings.

The Eagles moved up two spots after defeating UVA-Wise 7-0 on Monday and Mars Hill 6-1 on Tuesday. The Eagles are riding a three-game winning streak and are 8-2 in their last ten matches.

Marc Janse was ranked 72nd on the list released on Apr. 5th, but Carson-Newman's top player has fallen off the list despite winning three straight. Janse is second on the team with 14 singles victories, primarily as Carson-Newman's one player. Janse is 14-4 overall, 10-1 against SAC opponents, 9-3 as the one player, and 1-0 against ranked opponents this season.

Gjorgji Jankulovski has been perfect since conference play began, accumulating an 11-0 record against SAC foes. Jankulovski is 15-3 this season, 8-1 as the three, and currently riding an 11-game win streak.

Marnix Van Dalen finished last season ranked as the 54th singles player in Division-II but has yet to be ranked this season. Van Dalen is 11-6 this year, including eight wins as the two player. Van Dalen has a 7-3 record in conference play but dropped his only matchup against ranked opposition.

The Eagles have just one game remaining on their schedule before the conference tournament begins on Apr. 20th. The Eagles will play at Newberry on Saturday, starting with doubles action at 1:00 P.M.

Carson-Newman needs to win to secure third in the conference. The Eagles could tie with Anderson for third place if both teams win out to finish the season, but the Eagles hold the tiebreaker after defeating Anderson 6-1 back on Mar. 18th when the Trojans were undefeated and ranked 17th in the country.
