Eagles Move on to Semifinals

SUMTER, S.C. - Carson-Newman men's tennis (13-7, 10-2 South Atlantic Conference) shutout Lincoln Memorial (14-10, 7-5 SAC) to advance to the conference semifinals against Tusculum (16-5, 11-1 SAC).

The 4-0 victory for Carson-Newman advances Carson-Newman to 2-0 against Lincoln Memorial this season and marks the 11th win against conference opposition.

The Eagles are currently riding a five-game winning streak. Their 4-3 win against Newberry five days ago was the only matchup that the Eagles didn't win by five or more points.

Doubles

Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka lined up as Carson-Newman's one pair for the 20th time this season to take on Alex Giurea and William Jonsson. The Eagles won 7-6, marking their 10th win of the season.

Ids Waterbolk and Gjorgji Jankulovski defeated Harper Mills and Sebastian Aranzeta 7-5. Waterbolk/Jankulovski ranks second on the team with ten doubles victories.

Lars Hordijk and Marnix Van Dalen dropped their set against Thom Hermans and Nic Goslar 7-5, but the Eagles had already clinched the doubles point.

Singles

# 73-ranked Marc Janse collected his third bagel of the season when he defeated Freshman of the Year Alex Giurea 6-0 in the first set. Janse went on to win the second set 7-5, marking the senior's 56th career win.

Jankulovski took on William Jonsson in the four spot. Jankulovski won in sets of 6-3 and 7-5 to extend his winning streak to 13 consecutive matches. Jankulovski remains undefeated against conference foes and leads the team with 17 wins.

Waterbolk defeated Franco Battaglino in consecutive sets of 6-4, marking Waterbolk's 12th win of the season. Waterbolk is 10-5 as Carson-Newman's five-player and is 9-2 against SAC competition.

The Eagles stopped play after they clinched the match. Marnix Van Dalen won 6-3 in his first set before stopping. Oka won 7-6 in his first set but did not finish action. Hordijk dropped his first set 6-4 but was tied 4-4 in his second set when play stopped.

The Eagles will advance to the quarterfinals to take on Tusculum tomorrow at 1:00 P.M.
