Eagles Fall Short Against Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's tennis loses their third straight game after Tennessee Wesleyan (5-1) defeated the Eagles 7-0 on Saturday, Feb. 18th.

Doubles

Carson-Newman's Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka began the day with a matchup against Jesus Fernandez and Nicolas Cortez Campos. The Eagles duo dropped the set 7-6.

Javier Crespo Sanchez and Gjorgji Jankulovski were outscored 7-5 against Tennessee Wesleyan's Ruben Busch and Gabriel Ortiz.

Ids Waterbolk, paired with Lars Hordijk, dropped the final doubles match 7-6 against Zolio Rios and Sabi Rol.

Singles

Janse remained in the one spot for the Eagles against the ITA's 2nd ranked NAIA player in Ortiz. Ortiz won the match in sets of 6-0 and 7-5.

Marnix Van Dalen matched up against the 27th-ranked Nicolas Cortes Campos. Cortes Campos won the match with sets of 6-4 and 6-1.

Oka lined up against Rios in the three spot. Rios won the match 6-2 and 6-1.

Jankulovski played against Busch for the second time of the day after already playing a duos match against Busch. Bush won the first set 7-5 and took the second set 6-4.

Waterbolk lost his matchup against Rol in sets of 6-3 and 6-0.

Javier Crespo Sanchez won the first set of the day for the Eagles with a 6-1 victory over Juis Rosselot. Rosselot returned the favor with a 6-1 victory in the second set. The Bulldog carried the momentum into the third set to win 10-8.

The Eagles lost their third game in a row, marking their longest losing streak since their four-game slump in 2021. The Eagles suffered their first 7-0 loss since last year's matchup against Tennessee Wesleyan on Mar. 11th.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 18th, with a matchup against Young Harris. The Eagles are 2-5 against the Mountain Lions but won their last matchup on March 7th, 2021, with a score of 4-3.
