Eagles looking to pickup first victory of the season

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman women's tennis team plays at home for the first time all season against Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday afternoon.

"We certainly have learned a lot on the women's side that we can take back and work on in practice before transferring it on to the court for this week." Carson-Newman tennis coach Jean Love said, "I only have two starters from last year, so we have four new players in the top six and three are freshmen. We've been battling a bit of inexperience and it's showing up too, but we still have some good talent."

Carson-Newman (0-3) has won the last three matches against Tennessee Wesleyan (3-1) dating back to the 2013 season. This is the first time the Eagles have started the season with a three match losing streak. It is also the longest losing streak for the Eagles since the 2014-2015 season when they lost seven consecutive matches from March 21 to April 11.
"We are looking to be more consistent in doubles play and we are not getting good starts in singles play." Love said, "We are looking at some better tactics to help us get a better start in singles play. I'm looking for us to do some of the process things and good decision making that is going to help us for the long haul."
Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Germany) and Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) are the only women's tennis players to pick up victories on the season. Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.), Sydney Ledington (Corbin, Ky.), Lindy Tatum (Henderson, Tenn.) and Klara Vauckovic (Germany) have yet to win a set in singles play this season.
The Eagles have yet to win a doubles match during the 2017 campaign, going 0-9 in doubles play to start out the year.
