JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team will be playing host to Queens on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., for the final regular season match.

 "We have to play smart tennis," Carson-Newman tennis coach Jean Love said. "We got to bring effort and that will keep us in the match against Queens."

Carson-Newman (8-8, 7-3) has locked up the No. 5 seed in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, while Queens (11-3, 8-2) sits in front of the Eagles at the No.4 seed.

 

Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) and Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Germany) lead the team at No. 1 and No. 3 singles positions. Harris is 6-10 overall on the year and is 5-5 within conference play. Corsato-Owsianka is the only Eagle with a winning record at 9-7 overall on the season and a 6-4 mark in conference play. Since moving down to No. 3 singles Corsato-Owsianka has compiled a 6-2 record.

 

Sydney Ledington (Corbin, Ky.) is currently riding a four match winning streak at the No.6 singles position. The junior is 8-8 on the season and is 5-5 in conference play. Lindy Tatum (Henderson, Tenn.) has gone 8-10 at the No. 5 singles position and is 6-4 in conference play.

 

In the middle of the lineup Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) has split time at both the No.2 and No. 3 singles positions this year. The freshman is 7-9 overall on the year and 5-5 in conference play. Fellow freshman Klara Vuckovic (Germany) has gone 8-8 this season at the No. 4 singles position.

 

In doubles play Liashova and Vuckovic have the best record on the team with an 11-3 mark at the No. 2 doubles position. The duo are 8-2 in conference play this season. The top duo of Corsato-Owsianka and Harris are 7-7 this season.

 

The final doubles tandem of Ledington and Tatum are just 4-10 on the season with all four wins coming in conference play.

 

For Queens all six singles players have at least eight wins this season. The No.1 singles player Carlotta Nassi has won five straight matches in route to a 12-2 overall record and a 9-1 conference record. Marta Gonzalez is 8-6 on the season at the No.2 singles position with a mark of 5-5 in conference play.

 

Melissa Laing is on a three-match winning streak at the No. 3 singles position, while Caroline Nielsen is a perfect 13-0 at the No. 4 singles position.

 

Rounding out singles play for the Royals is Isabel Fornies and Hannah Lehfeldt. Lehfeldt has gone 10-2 this season, while Fornies has compiled a 9-3 record at No.6 singles.

 

In doubles play the most consistent No.1 doubles team of Gonzalez and Nassi is a perfect 5-0 on the season as a pairing. Claire Hamilton and Lehfeldt are 6-1 on the season at No.2 doubles and the Royals have multiple options at the No.3 doubles position.
