Eagles looking to win third straight in SAC play

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team will attempt to get back to their winning ways with a trip to Brevard on Saturday afternoon.

Carson-Newman (6-7, 5-3) have won two consecutive South Atlantic Conference matches against Newberry, and Lincoln Memorial. Brevard (1-16, 0-8) has been shutout in every conference contest this season.

Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Germany) has been leading the Eagles as of late with a three game winning streak. The preseason all-conference selection is 7-6 on the season with a 4-4 conference record. Since moving to the No. 3 singles position the junior has gone 4-1 on the season.

Fellow junior Sydney Ledington (Corbin, Ky.) was the only other Eagle to pick-up a win against the University of the Cumberlands on Thursday afternoon. Ledington is 5-8 on the year and has a 3-5 record within conference play.

The Eagles No.1 singles player Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) has gotten into a bit of a sophomore slump. As a freshman Harris compiled an overall record of 12-8, this season Harris has gone just 4-9 during her sophomore campaign.

A trio of freshman have emerged for the Eagles this season to complete the singles lineup. Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) leads the way at the No. 2 singles position with a 5-8 overall record. The freshman will attempt to break a four match losing streak.

Klara Vuckovic (Germany) is the Eagles No. 4 singles player this season and has accumulated a 6-7 record. The freshman has stepped up her game during conference competition though, compiling a 5-3 record thus far.

Lindy Tatum (Henderson, Tenn.) has started to surge as of late. The freshman clinched the match for the Eagles against Newberry, and she came up with another victory against Lincoln Memorial. Tatum is 6-9 overall on the year and is 4-4 within conference play this season.

The No. 2 doubles team of Liashova and Vuckovic have dominated opponents in doubles play this season. The duo is currently riding a five match winning streak while amassing a 9-2 overall record and a 7-1 mark in conference play.

The Eagles No. 3 pairing of Ledington and Tatum will look to get back on the winning track. The tandem is in the midst of a four match losing streak and just a 2-9 record on the season. The top doubles team of Corsato-Owsianka and Harris have stayed even all year and have not fluctuated up or down. The tandem is 5-6 on the season and 4-4 in SAC play.

Brevard will attempt to salvage its 1-16 season on Saturday against the Eagles. Not only have the Tornadoes been swept by every conference opponent, but the team has also dropped all 72 sets in conference play. To make matters worse for the Tornados the team has combined to win 24 games out of a possible 477 games played. On the bright side for Brevard all but one player has picked up a victory this season in non-conference play.

The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first-set serve.
