Three-under day earns No. 22/23 C-N fifth-place finish at Hurricane Invitational

ALBANY, Ga. – Making a one-spot jump up the leaderboard on Tuesday to fifth, No. 22/23 Carson-Newman book-ended its week at the Hurricane Invitational with another round of 285 to go four-under at the Doublegate Country Club on Tuesday.

The Eagles mirrored their opening round score with another three-under performance in the final round to collect an 860 total. In the round, the team accounted for 15 birdies and 16 bogeys with no shots higher than a bogey.

"Solid play today by the Eagles," Carson-Newman coach Randy Wylie said. "Hopefully we will keep rounding into form with six weeks left until the conference championship."

Tom Forster (Oundle, England) and Fergus Robinson (Towcester, England) remained in the red through the final day, separating themselves from the rest of their Orange and Blue counterparts by seven shots.

Forster closed the event in a tie for fifth with a 209 (-7). The senior was two-under on the day with a pair of birdies, shooting even on each of the remaining 16 holes. By the end of Tuesday, he was just one shot shy of a top-three spot in the field, six shots back of first.

Just as he did in the first round, Robinson carded a two-under 70 in the final round to hold down 13th on the leaderboard at four-under. He carded four birdies with just a pair of bogeys.

Fintan McKenna (Aberdeen, Scotland) turned in his lowest round of the week to move into a tie for 35th with a 219 total, three-over par. The senior delivered a team-high six birdies but had them negated by six bogeys. For the week, he led the Eagles with 12 birdies total.

Four shots behind McKenna by the end of Tuesday was Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.), tying for 44th with a 223. His lone birdie in the round was accompanied by five birdies, three of those coming on par-3 holes, as he carded a 76.

Sitting at 10-over through three rounds, Zach Young (Crossville, Tenn.) landed at 53rd after scoring his lowest round of the week with a one-over 73. The sophomore fired his fewest amount bogeys in the event with three on Tuesday.

Individual Ethan Rimmer (Knoxville, Tenn.) improved for a second-straight round, tying for 66th at 16-over. He fired a three-over final round, one shot better than his evening round on Monday.

Host team No. 1/2 Georgia Southwestern ran away with the tournament title after going 10-under on Tuesday for a 31-under 833. Clayton State took second at 21-under with Delta State at 19-under for third.

Delta State's Zach Zediker won the player title with a 13-under performance after going five-under on Tuesday. He held a two-shot advantage on GSW's Vincent Norman in second with a tie for third three shots back at eight-under.

Carson-Newman faces a quick turnaround as it heads back to the Sunshine State for the second time this spring to take part in the Panther Invitational. That three-day event begins on Sunday from the Duran Golf Club in Viera, Fla.
