JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Eagles' women's golf team continues its fall season on Monday, traveling to Cleveland, Tennessee, for the City with Spirit Fall Classic at the Cleveland Country Club.
C-N finished strong on the second day of the Fall Kick Off a week ago, finishing in 4th place following multiple low rounds. Head coach Bo Harris was impressed with his team's ability to overcome adversity and produce a strong final round to overtake in-state rival Tusculum on the final day of action.
"I saw grit," Harris said. "I wanted to see effort, and I didn't want to see anyone give up. The first day with both rounds, we had some adversity hit us early, but to see those kids not give up and play it shot by shot was great to see."
Junior Madison Cline delivered a career-low round in the third round, shooting a 71 on the final day of play. Harris believes that can serve as a springboard for Cline and the rest of the team heading into the second event of the fall.
"I'm so proud of her," Harris said. "She has worked really hard, and she's the leader on the team, so with hard work and consistency, it's going to pay off. Being able to work the golf course shot by shot instead of working ahead, she and several others did a wonderful job."
With a solid all-around third round for the Eagles, Harris knows his team can build on their successes to put together a complete performance this week.
"There might have been some first tournament jitters," Harris said. "We hadn't seen Bermuda greens yet, and a lot of my kids didn't have experience. We will have a better idea for preparation moving forward… I've been to this golf course several times… Knowing where we go is going to help."
Coming into a new week and a new event, the focal points for Harris and his team remain the same.
"I think taking advantage of our distance is key again," Harris said. "Making sure we know what to do and exactly where we want to plot our way around that golf course. We'll prep, and we'll be ready."
The Eagles will tee off on their second event of the fall season on Monday at 8 AM at the Cleveland Country Club.
