JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – After a couple of weeks off, Carson-Newman women's golf will continue its fall season on Monday and Tuesday at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial in Dahlonega, Georgia.
Due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, head coach Bo Harris has not been able to see his team practice as much as he would like, but he has been able to see improvements in the limited practice time.
"We're working when we can with the weather," Harris said. "We've been working on a lot of par three scoring, going through all the stats and figuring out what we need to work on the most and then going from there."
In the Eagles' last event at the City with Spirit Fall Classic, Macy Bromley and Madison Cline tallied personal best rounds, marking the second time Cline has topped her best in the fall season. Harris has been impressed with the two and the work they have put in to get there.
"It's hard work paying off," Harris said. "They're both great leaders on this team and doing great things on and off the golf course. I don't think that will be the last time we see them or anybody in the starting lineup top their personal bests."
The Eagles sat in 6th after a solid first two rounds in Cleveland but slipped to 10th after the final day of action. Going forward, Harris wants to see consistency from his team to stay within the top pack of finishers.
"We just need to play steady golf," Harris said. "Not getting too excited… These first days, we're playing 36 holes. We're out there for 11 or 12 hours, so it's a long day of golf. Staying steady, not worrying what is going on on the leaderboard, focusing on ourselves, and playing shot by shot."
C-N played in the LeeAnn Noble Memorial last year, familiarizing the Eagles with the course. Harris believes his team will be set up for success with a practice round on Sunday and a handful of Eagles having played the course.
"Using some knowledge from the practice round and going through the yardage books will be helpful," Harris said. "It's going to be more free because they already know what is going on… This will be a tough week for everybody, with the devastation from the hurricane setting not just us but essentially every program back… I think with their familiarity, though, this can be a good week."
The Eagles will take the course in Dahlonega, Georgia, for the first two rounds of the LeeAnn Noble Memorial on Monday at 8 AM.
