MONROE, N.C. – Carson-Newman women's golf secured its second solid finish of the spring season, placing fifth at the Jerry Surratt Memorial at 36-over as a team.
The Eagles finished the event five strokes ahead of No. 11 North Georgia and 19 strokes in front of in-state South Atlantic Conference foe, No. 28 Lincoln Memorial.
Ida Petersen led the Eagles on day two, finishing 8th at 3-over, securing her second top ten finish of the spring season. Petersen's second round started with four-straight pars, and despite two bogeys in the middle of the front nine, she finished strong with three pars to enter the back nine at 2-over. Petersen carded all nine holes at par on the back nine to finish the round at 2-over.
In round three, Petersen shot three birdies and six pars on the front nine to enter the day's final stretch at 3-under. Petersen shot three holes over par on the back nine, but six pars limited the damage and allowed her to finish the round at 1-over.
Emery Fisher finished the event in 23rd at 10-over after an 81-stroke round two before an improved 73-stroke third round. The sophomore's 2nd round featured five holes over par on the front nine, but a birdie and three pars helped her limit the damage to 5-over. Fisher added four strokes on four bogeys on the back nine to finish the round at 9-over.
In round three, Fisher carded two birdies to overcome a bogey and shot the rest of the front nine at par to enter the final stretch at 1-under. The sophomore added a pair of strokes on the back nine, but seven pars limited the damage to help her finish the round at 1-over.
Madison Cline finished shortly behind Fisher in 26th at 13-over, carding a 72 in round two before finishing the event with a 78-stroke final round. In round two, Cline started her day with three birdies and four pars to negate a pair of bogeys and enter the back nine at 1-under. Despite a pair of holes over par on the back nine, Cline carded a pair of birdies and five pars to finish the round at even-par.
Cline's front nine in round three featured three bogeys but six pars to enter the back nine at 3-over. Five holes over par hurt Cline's tally on the back nine, but three pars and a late birdie helped her finish the round at 9-over.
Sydney Thomes comes in just after Cline, finishing tied for 27th at 14-over. Thomas' round two front nine featured four holes over par, but five pars to enter the back nine at 4-over. Thomas carded two bogeys on the back nine but the rest of the holes at par to finish the round at 6-over.
In round three, Thomas carded three bogeys on the front nine, but a birdie and five pars helped her enter the final stretch at 2-over. Thomas canceled an early bogey with a late birdie and the rest of the holes at par to finish the round at 2-over.
Anaelle Picot rounded out C-N with a 59th place finish at 22-over. Picot carded three bogeys on the front nine in round two, but a pair of birdies and four pars sent her to the back nine at 1-over. Three holes over par on the back nine damaged Picot's tally, but a late birdie and five holes at par helped her finish the round at 5-over.
In round three, Picot had three holes over par on the front nine but six pars to enter the final stretch at 4-over. Picot had five holes over par on the back nine, but a late bogey and three pars helped her total to finish at 9-over.
With another stellar outing, the Eagles will face a quick turnaround, heading to the Oldfield Intercollegiate in Okatie, S.C. on March 17th and 18th.
